Sophie Kinsella's 'The Burnout' - Review

Admittedly, I have not read a full book in what must be over a year... I KNOW, my bad my bad. I've been so busy for a while now creating enough jewellery to stock two locations that I haven't had a chance to just unwind, UNTIL NOW.

Finallyyyyy I've managed to grab a week off the day job as well as the jewellery job, to run away to Cornwall and enjoy some pamper time. So what better opportunity to try and get a bit of reading in. I headed straight to the local shops on my way down, had a quick scan of the current book charts and lone behold, find me a Sophie Kinsella book. As I've always loved her books because they're just usually so easy and fun to read, that without hesitation I popped it in my trolley and the rest is history. Carry on reading below to see my sum up ❤️

  1. Still easy to read

Sophie's writing style still continues to be easy to read. It flows nicely and I was laughing by Page 12 which is always a good sign. Additionally from an editing point of view, I only spotted 2 errors. Now I'm no writer and nor is my grammar perfect so I won't judge too harshly here but let's just say, I've read/seen a million worse edits so no worries here.

2. Relatable

I think there are several areas of this story that most people will be able to relate to in some form or another. Whether it's with feeling burnt out from stressful life factors, feeling overworked, feeling a lack of lust for life or love, feeling stuck or feeling like you could blow your lid at any moment, all of the above? Either way, this book is for you. At the time of reading this book, I was absolutely feeling burnt out, mentally, physically, and when you're in that place there is nothing more comforting than reading words that you can relate to. It helps of course being able to laugh through the relatable content too.m, maybe it helps to release the weight off your shoulders at the same time.

3. Rom Com

Who doesn't love a lovely little Rom Com along the way. Is it predictable, of course it is but does it make it any less readable, course not! And what I loved just as much were the secondary characters built around the mains. They were each given great little personalities which caused several sniggers and laugh out loud moments. Do I dare also admit they were also the cause of shedding the odd year tear... OK too late, I may have welled a couple of times 😅

I won't say much else as I wouldn't want to give anything away but if yo want a lighthearted, feel good sort of book to read, this is the one.
